Play around with the lighting to see what helps when you're trying to get a good shot and you could also try making high contrast with the colors and/or inking process (in my case I find that my phone washes out the colors so erring on the side of too dark/bright has accidentally helped me.) You could consider getting something like Ibis on your phone and see if you can do any touch-ups/value shifting to improve the readability digitally. (You could also try out digital art, like inking and coloring the sketches digitally, but you don't have to.) I'd consider putting the results onto an art site that isn't specifically for webcomics until you're comfortable with the method you have for getting them online, that way you won't feel as pressured for them to look as good as possible for your audience while still getting a small following perhaps. But admittedly I have no practical experience with this (other than needing to use my phone to take pics of my art these days lol) so take my thoughts with a lot of grains of salt!

Yeah! And that's entirely OK! It's good to know our limits as well so that we don't spend time spinning our wheels on things we don't enjoy. Neocities is so good though, I've tried it a couple times. Yeah it's hard to promote like any other stand alone site but it'd be 100% yours! And once you get past the learning curve it's fun. I also love that old school internet feel. Good suggestion.

Yeah. The worst part about popularity is that it's so often luck based, right time and right place, no matter how or why you want it. You also can't predict it so things can sometimes get popular much later on and outlast your interest in them or just happen long after you've finished something (single piece of art or meme, shorter comic with definite ending, fanfic, etc.) Sometimes the WIP gets more interest than the finished piece. Sometimes your poop post gets a million more likes than the thing you rendered for a week. Also ofc marketing makes a major difference but most people can't get that or won't be able to predict how much it'll help them because there's still a lot of luck involved (it's why not every book with heavy marketing or even word of mouth consistently becomes an international bestseller. You can game the system but it's not even as simple as that.) So I definitely agree with this and what Voltergeist has said here and in the video. Chasing popularity will probably just make you unhappy, even if you get lucky and obtain your 15 minutes of fame.🥲

@@Voltergeist Since you last saw or heard from me, I have been at the gym, shredding it up as early as 5am before work. When I am not at work, I spend a lot of time working on the profile for my characters and stories. The initial designs are good and the game concept story is bonkers. It's like Nintendo meets Spyro with the story arc of Jojo Bizarre Adventures; a different monkey for each arc. It is not a manga or anything.

This is such a good tip, thanks for sharing it! I used to do something similar in old Gaia online forums called the oc battle Royale, it was such a fun, collaborative effort.

I think speed paints make more sense because ya 15 minutes is a good sized video unless you have a longer topic to discuss then maybe 30-40 min would be good

You know I've noticed a lot of the newer commonplacing videos are really journaling videos but I'm guessing the term 'commonplace' is trending right now! I like the idea of having a separate place for information I've taken in that I find good for later reference. I'm not really too much of a 'collecting quotes' person, but I love the idea of gathering your own compendium of information. That's kinda what commonplace books are for, to me. Not a fan of Locke's method? haha I don't blame you. I think my main commonplace is the only book I'll be using it because it really is a catch-all with different subjects. I can use a simple index (or nothing at all!) for any other book if I need it since they're more focused. Yeah anything off limits, I just, won't show. I didn't make these books specifically to share initially so it's not like I'm censoring myself when I start these journals, it just doesn't occur to me until I go "oh uhhh I'm gonna film this but is it ok?" haha! I know a lot of journal/notebook youtubers have a specific book they use for filming and keep their more personal ones off camera. I do really have a lot of books though. It's not a system for everybody lol!! Thanks again for watching!

@@Voltergeist I think "personal knowledge base" will be trending next but we'll see haha yeah a lot of people have journals but it seems like everyone has their own definition one single most important book feels amazing! so uh... I'm a bit of a locke hater lol - at least when it comes to his commonplace book related stuff (which I know is heretical in the commonplace space but that's okay lol) because the full index in terms of the latin that is supposed to be used and using vowels as sub categories instead of numbers and all the other stuff simply feels way too complicated and pretentious to me - although it might simply be I started with locke and it's more of a personal grievance in the way that a person might play 4000 hours of a video game and then say it's a bad game how do you figure out what not to show? it was way too challenging for me emotionally so I had to start over haha - but that means people get to see the process so maybe worth idk 100% not for everyone but I think most people would get at least some value out of the little field notes book you have thanks for replying so quickly!

Generally mirror sites are good for the audience that's already on that platform. The people who are reading my comic on CF usually find it there. They may not be going to my main site but they *are* reading it at least. I've also seen people update pages on their main site first, and then a week or so later on the mirrors. So if they wanted to read ahead they'd have to go to main site. There's pros and cons! Ways to do it , depending on what you're up for!

Yeah tumblr is tough. I only just started getting readers and then they shit the bed and I lost a lot of readers and the motivation to post there went with it LOL.
